June 9: STICK SHIFT
StickShift LogoStickShift was created in 2008 at Weber State University; As students there, Alan Watts, Taylor Malmrose, Ben Yuill, Kylen Seely, and Matthew Kinney were all involved in the music program in one way or another, and eventually started playing together. Alan, Ben, Matt and Taylor played together in the symphonic orchestra on violin, violin, percussion and French horn. Little did we know that Ben would start learning the banjo and that Taylor also played the bass guitar. Kylen (Ky) sang in the WSU choir and was recruited by Taylor to come play guitar. Chas Burks (Mandolin/ Guitar) is a home grown Tennessee recruit that Matthew Kinney introduced to us. Chas and Matthew recently joined StickShift to create some high intensity sounds we’ve been looking for. Yes we play some covers, but we also write our own stuff and have a unique composition style that is clean and clever. (Alan) “When I write, I try to incorporate something you may not have known, even though it’s a part of every day life.” Our Genre can best be described as Texas Swing, Blue Grass, Jazzy, Country, Hot Fiddle, Stomp your feet music…….Our music is comparable to that of Ryan Shupe and the RubberBand.

July 28: PETER BREINHOLT
Peter Breinholt PhotoPeter Breinholt is a recording artist popular in the Salt Lake City, Utah local music scene.

Peter taught himself to play piano, guitar, and drums growing up. Around the age of 11 he began writing and tracking his own songs. Later, as a college student at the University of Utah, Peter began performing at local coffee houses and restaurants. The response was so positive that Peter was quickly pressed to track his compositions for release. The resulting recording, “Songs About the Great Divide” caused a sensation in Utah, eventually being described by Salt Lake Magazine as “an underground classic on Utah college campuses”.  It became the best-selling, independently released CD ever in the state, almost entirely by word of mouth. Groups like the marching band at Brigham Young University soon began playing the song “You Wear Flowers” on the football field at halftime, and local high school choirs doing their own arrangements of the song. Breinholt began selling out major concert halls in his home state of Utah and eventually in surrounding states.

Within a year of the album’s release Breinholt & Big Parade played nearly 100 shows and continued building their fan base. It was during these concerts the expanded Big Parade road-tested many of the songs that later appeared on Breinholt’s second studio album, “Heartland”.  The underlying theme of that record is travel.

Some of Breinholt’s best-known concerts have taken place at the 1,500-seat Eccles Amphitheater on the mountainside of Robert Redford’s Sundance Ski Resort in Provo Canyon, UT. Breinholt’s live album, “Live September”, was recorded there over three sold-out nights days after the September 11, 2001 attacks.  The album has become one of Breinholt’s most enduring recordings.

August 11: RYAN SHUPE & THE RUBBERBAND
Ryan Shupe & The RubberBand PhotoJoin the Tooele City Chamber of Commerce for a community bbq before the concert!  Cost is $2.00 per person.

Ryan Shupe is roaring back with “We Rode On”, his new album coming the first part of 2016.  “We Rode On” marks a striking career transition and a meaningful evolution in Shupe’s songwriting, his life, and the band’s sound.  It strongly and deftly combines the rock side of their musical arsenal with the acoustic instruments and virtuosic jamming the band has become known for in their live shows. Like a mad musical scientist (and father/husband), Ryan Shupe recorded, arranged and tweaked the band’s newest creation in his personal studio.  “I wanted to create a new sound and an evolution for the band’s music” said Shupe, “It’s the best album we’ve done and definitely the most rocking!” Being a 5th generation fiddler, an accomplished electric guitar, acoustic guitar and mandolin player, Shupe has been touring extensively across the US since he was 10 years old.  He is no stranger to the national stage and the band has appeared on Good Morning America, E! TV, Mountain Stage, Woodsongs, GAC and CMT. They continue to tour regularly with stops at festivals, concert series, special events and prestigious venues.  Bringing a national team together with radio, marketing, social media, and publicity, the band will continue touring nationally through 2015 and 2016 to promote the album, starting with the regions where they have a strong following.
