| The Community Development Department oversees and coordinates land use, zoning, planning, and building construction with Tooele City. This office reviews proposed new development, new construction and remodeling of all residential and commercial buildings. Employees process building permits and conduct inspections of electrical, plumbing, structural, and mechanical. The department also inspects all public improvements, including roads, water, sewer, curb, gutter, and sidewalk. Inspectors also enforce city abatement ordinances such as weeds, unlicensed vehicles, and nuisances. Tooele City Public Works Department plans, designs, engineers, maintains and operates our water, waste water, reuse, and storm drain systems. The Public Works Department also co-plans the city's transportation system and operates the maintenance shop for city-owned vehicles. Eighteen employees operate and maintain our public utility systems and shops. The City Engineer assists with the planning, engineering, design, and maintenance of city public utilities.
